The Sub Sandwich Shops
Sub sandwich shops are pretty much on every corner and for good reason. Sub sandwiches are amazing! The sandwich is a pretty great invention. I love that I can take any ingredient and sandwich it between 2 other food items and I can call it a sandwich. While I am truly fond and a tad biased of my sub sandwich being held together by a loaf of fresh, yummy bread, I am also open minded enough to know that fresh bread is not the end all, be all, of my beloved sandwich.
The Other Guys
To start and so the other sandwichers don’t feel ignored, we will spotlight them for a second. Lettuce, cored cucumbers, pretzels, donuts, cinnamon roles, hamburger patties, etc. have all been used to make sandwiches. Some of these are creative of as hell and well, the others are…at least it’s healthy, I guess☺. There, don’t say I didn’t ever give them any props. Now on to the good stuff!
Now that we have gotten that out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff. When it comes down to it, we love our bread! Bread in any form is the best way to assemble a sub sandwich and the best way to tell the sub sandwich shop on one corner from the amazing sub sandwich shop on the other corner. What else can you blend famously with mayo, mustard, pesto, marinara or whatever condiments you chose to be on your sub sandwich? Nothing does. The melding of bread and condiments makes the perfect base for the rest of ingredients to sit upon.
After that, it’s fair game. Fill those beautiful pieces of bread slathered with condiments with anything that makes you happy. Maybe you want simple and you choose meatballs, marinara and melted provolone. Maybe you want crunchy and fresh veggies are your choice (don’t forget the fresh sliced avocado though!). Or maybe it is a breakfast kind of day and an Italian sandwich with a fried egg on top is the way you go. Whatever the innards of your sub sandwich are, we know it will be amazing as long as you make it with bread. Until next time my sandwich lovers.
